Dacryocystitis

Tears from the eyes are drained by a system called lacrimal apertures. Tears from the eyes flow in to nasolacrimal duct which opens in to nose.

When nasolacrimal duct is blocked due to various reasons tears can not be drained in to nose, instead its gets collected in to a small sac called lacrimal sac which is situated between the eye and nasolacrimal duct. This is a source of infection and causes watering and discharge into the eyes. There is high risk of infection to the eyes as pus from the sac is drained in to the eyes only.
